Craving the city life
Living with no power for 8 days sure is challenging....but God is still good!
All our food spoiled in the fridge (cut avocados, mangos, milk, beef, spaghetti sauce, etc.) And we have no ice which although it's a luxury, it's super needed in this hot place! No fans for the sweaty days and nights, no lights and our house gets dark around 6pm (so we cook dinner with 1 head lamp) no hot water for bathing... (Although a cool shower is nice!) No tv to watch our downloaded shows (we have started watching 24, just a few years behind) and my laptop speaker is too quiet so we have to sit soo close! Haha. (1st world problem) We've been heading to town by foot in the hot sun each day to charge our phones as we also use them as flashlights, and our modem which is our data. We've been passing time by playing Phase 10 and Settlers. There aren't even really any children around since school is now in session and most are boarders which means they live at the school. I've tried to be creative. I even made a bowling game with plastic soda bottles half filled with water and a tennis ball. Good fun for 1 hour.
We have enjoyed a great leaders trainging conference in the village these past few days. Many youth leaders gathers as we shared about missional living, servant leadership, our mission and vision for reaching the lost and Luke 15. Our theme of Just Jesus has been used to inspire many churches to speak the truth in love and reach out in kindess and compassion. Keneisha was gifted a chicken as a thank you! The best part was watching her carry it home!
Although I'm telling myself to keep my expectations low, we are pretty exciting to be heading back to Kampala for a week or so. We will be staying at the Love a Child boys home again, then visiting a few of our church's to run a youth leaders training session. We also hope to eat pizza, ice cream, see a movie, go for a swim, hang out with friends.
