Month 1 Update
Time is flying by as we have already past our 1 month marker here in Uganda and wow- what a ride thus far!
An astonishing 5 million people go in and out of Kampala city each day, taxis and motorcycles everywhere and locals who seem to never sleep! I have a new bedtime routine of ear plugs, an eye mask, and the fan on high!
Next week the country votes during political elections and many campaigns and protests have occurred in the city. The current President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has been in power for 30 years allegedly through massive voter intimidation and rigging. The young generation wants to see change, so we pray for peace and God's will to be done regarding the authorities and government here. We are staying safe outside of the city for the next few months as we wait for the elections to be over and the dust to settle.
We have visited with over 15 churches already, gathering their leadership teams together and sharing words of encouragement. Our theme this year is Just Jesus, taken from Galatians 1 focusing on sharing the true gospel- not one that has been perverted with additions by man. Just sharing Biblical truths and teaching on the character of who our Father God is has been both rewarding and challenging. God's kingdom is upside down to the world and can be taken as counter cultural...but Jesus desires for a personal relationship with us, not religious traditions and cultural routines...so the message of going boldly and confidently to our loving Father God is strong and attractive! We have Good News and we are excited to continue to share it!
Now that we are in Kasese, which is much more rural in West Uganda, we will be ministering in the villages and small towns. The pace of life here is like a drip in comparison to the raging river of Kampala. But as we adjust, we are learning to value each interaction and the beauty of the local people. We aim to work with students at a community vocational college every Tuesday morning and Friday night. We will be working alongside their choir, training up a committee of leadership students to lead the college chapel service and also plan to start a Sunday night small group/ church on campus.
We continue to eat toast with peanut butter and bananas for breakfast, and rice and cabbage for most dinners. Our supply of Reeses and Kirkland toilet paper are quickely depleting, but we try not to think too much about that!
Thank you for your continued prayer and support. Life here is not easy, but so worth it!
