Square lid basket

These light weight and cute baskets are made from an East African local grown grass. Artisans also make a range of baskets that use a combination of these grasses, mixed with banana fibre (which comes from the bark of the banana tree) and raffia wrapped over coils of banana leaf stems.  

Basket weaving is carried out from a local community organization of woman in Uganda. From thier rural village they gather each day outside thier homes to socialize, and weave together in between their other domestic duties.  The knowledge on how to weave has been mostly passed down from generation to generation. We have designed these coloured baskets and have worked hard to perserve technique while creating something for the modern home.
